Today I thought I would share a smoothie recipe I often throw together – A green/Raw turmeric Smoothie

INGREDIENT BENEFITS: (There are many benefits but here are a few below)

LEMON

There are many health benefits of lemons that have been known for centuries. The two biggest are lemons’ strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers and their use as a weight loss aid because lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many substances–notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–that promote immunity and fight infection.

TURMERIC

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), the bright yellow of the spice rainbow, is a powerful medicine that has long been used in the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent to treat a wide variety of conditions, including flatulence, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, bloody urine, hemorrhage, toothache, bruises, chest pain, and colic.

GINGER

Historically, ginger has a long tradition of being very effective in alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. In herbal medicine, ginger is regarded as an excellentcarminative (a substance which promotes the elimination of intestinal gas) andintestinal spasmolytic (a substance which relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract). Modern scientific research has revealed that ginger possesses numerous therapeutic properties including antioxidant effects, an ability to inhibit the formation of inflammatory compounds, and direct anti-inflammatory effects.

KALE

One cup of chopped kale contains 33 calories and 9% of the daily value of calcium, 206% of vitamin A, 134% of vitamin C, and a whopping 684% of vitamin K. It is also a good source of minerals copper, potassium, iron, manganese, and phosphorus.

Kale’s health benefits are primarily linked to the high concentration and excellent source of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and K — and sulphur-containing phytonutrients.

Carotenoids and flavonoids are the specific types of antioxidants associated with many of the anti-cancer health benefits. Kale is also rich in the eye-health promoting lutein and zeaxanthin compounds.

Beyond antioxidants, the fiber content of cruciferous kale binds bile acids and helps lower blood cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease, especially when kale is cooked instead of raw.

SPINACH

This healthy green is full of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Spinach has an extremely high nutritional value and is rich in antioxidants. It is a good source of vitamins A, B2, C and K, and also contains magnesium, manganese, folate, iron, calcium and potassium.

BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries contain antioxidants, which work to neutralize free radicals linked to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other age-related conditions. These little powerhouses provide tasty ways of staying healthy.

Low in fat — coming in at about 80 calories per cup and practically fat-free — blueberries are loaded with fiber to keep you fuller longer. Just a handful can satisfy your daily fiber requirement. Plus, blueberries are an excellent source ofmanganese, which plays an important part in bone development and converting carbohydrates and fats into energy.

BANANA

Bananas are one of our best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function. Since the average banana contains a whopping 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium, a banana a day may help to prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis.

MINT

Eating mint is good for the body, such as cooling the digestive tract, or if abdominal pain will greatly help relieve the pain. While herbal mint tea drinking may reduce irritable bowel syndrome, stomach cleaning, and also cleans skin disorders such as acne.
While cool mint sensation on the skin can help overcome skin irritation. Not only that, mint can also help eliminate toxins in the body and purify the blood by eating them regularly. In fact, crushed mint leaves believed to whiten teeth and eliminate bad breath.

PLACE ALL THESE Ingredients in a blender with water OR coconut water and combine.. Sprinkle with seed/coconut shreds or as you please! Drink Immediately.

    • Thanks!! You can mix it up and add seeds and coconut flakes – or coconut water. I sometimes add chocolate protein powder..kiwi fruit, celery and pineapple….

      If you want to make the smoothy REALLY cold and thick, cut up banana and freeze it.. use the frozen banana.. (Thats what I usually do) Makes a world of difference!!
